My teaching consists mostly of working through examples and discussing the problems together. I try and give the student a chance to consider the question and try it themselves before helping out if needed.
The first lesson is almost always a quick test paper or checklist so I can find out what the student's strengths and weaknesses are.
Usually I start the lessons with a brief introduction (and if I have planned one thing for the lesson will check whether what I have planned is okay, or if there is something more beneficial). If the lesson is online I have a whole host of activities and worksheets at my fingertips, however if the lesson is in person this is much harder to do and it may not be possible for me to switch the lesson plan immediately.
If we are starting a new topic, I will give a set of simple questions of increasing difficulty to test how well the student understands that topic. Once they start to struggle I will help them out and see how they go from there on out. Usually worksheets are scaffolded anyway in order to allow for some recall from last week and still push them as the lesson goes on.
At the end of each lesson I try and give an activity to do during the week but always remind them that it is not mandatory and it's completely their choice of whether or not they do the activity.
If requested at GCSE I also have plenty of exam papers I can supply whenever they are needed.
I am a digital forensics student whos been working as an online tutor since Christmas 2020. I have taught students from early KS3 up to GCSE. I like to focus on confidence building and enthusiasm for a subject rather than solely on grades.
At GCSE I achieved an B in Computer Science and an 8 in Maths.
At A-Level I achieved a B in Computer Science and a D in Maths.
I also achieved 91% in my maths module on my university course.
Cancellations: There is no minimum time for cancellations. However 6 hours notice is preferred. If no notice is given and I arrive at the lesson I will ask for at least a half fee (and travel costs if applicable).
Travel Costs: As I am a student I may need to be reimbursed for any travel costs depending on the distance and the public services available. However, I will never ask for a full fare and I will always try and make it as low as possible for you.
