I teach only up to GCSE Level to account for the change in specification recently - My method of teaching is to assess the level of the student in each topic to be taught, and to focus first on their weaknesses and then to fortify their strengths once their weak points are brought up to a sufficiently high level.
I'm a soon-to-be Computer Science student at Warwick University - I've been teaching GCSE Maths and Science for 2 years - both my students at GCSE got at least a grade B or above in both - I also just finished Maths, Further Maths and Physics at A Level.
Able to offer tuition for £10 per hour for more able students (currently working at grade 7 or above) that simply wish to polish their skills - cancellations must be made at least a day before the lesson to allow for scheduling changes.
I am a hardworking and motivated individual who has recently completed A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths, and Physics. I am an aspiring Computer Science; expecting to complete a degree in Computer Science at Warwick University. I have a high degree of computer and digital device literacy and have experience in tutoring.
Education and Qualifications:
2011 – Present:
A Levels: Awaiting results for Maths, Further Maths and Physics, and 1 Grade B in Chemistry at AS Level
GCSEs: 11 GCSEs including Triple Science, Mandarin Chinese, French and ICT. Overall 9 Grade A* and 2 Grade A
Sixth Form Treasurer – October 2017 to June 2018
Within this role I became responsible for management of the Sixth Form’s Bank account – including general transactions using a chequebook, working as part of a team and maintaining a ledger.
Part-Time Tutor, (Hired by the School) – October 2016 to June 2018
I was responsible for tutoring several Year 11 students in Physics, Chemistry and Biology - adapting as necessary, to successfully boost their grades in each of the sciences and maximise their full potential as students and representatives of the school by tailoring each lesson according to students’ needs.
I am proficient in Adobe Photoshop, as well as experienced in social media feeds and web content. Additionally, I am competent with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and OneNote due to my GCSE in ICT, as well as gaining a working knowledge of networking and the roles of different nodes in a network. During my work experience with the Royal Brompton Hospital’s Biomedical Research Unit, I also learned basic MATLAB programming to be able to understand the protocols used by MRI machines when working with technicians that looked to improve imaging software.
Achievements and Recognition:
• Competed and ranked silver in the UKMT Junior Mathematics Challenge 2012
Foreign Language Competency:
I am fluent in two languages – Malayalam and English, and can speak and understand French, Tamil and Mandarin Chinese at a basic level.
Interests and Hobbies:
Playing Cricket - a dynamic sport that involves team work and individual performance. This has helped me improve my performance as part of a team and has taught me how to handle pressure to achieve optimal results, as well as adapt to new and difficult circumstances smoothly.
Reading - I read various fiction and nonfiction materials. Improving my range of reading in turn improves my literacy and communication skills – both of which are essential not only when teaching, but also when working cooperatively with others.
Gaming – My interest in the seamless way that Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics integrate have led me to take up one of Computer Science’s most versatile outlets– gaming. Seeing the different ways code can be used to simulate different environments, and how algorithms are used to provide a “natural” behaviour to completely digital “beings” has benefited my computational thinking greatly – to reduce a concept into a teachable algorithm effectively is part of what makes a great teacher. Along with this, by spending time with teamwork-oriented multiplayer games, I have greatly improved my versatility and adaptability, and have increased my strategic thinking capabilities because of the need to formulate several completely different, imaginative approaches to any given problem quickly.
