About Sofia
Here's a bit about my journey as a flutist:
I began playing the flute as a middle school band student in 2006. My journey as a flutist took off during my second year of flute when I started taking private lessons with a teacher and began auditioning for honor bands. Throughout my time in grade school, I actively auditioned for and participated in many different orchestras and honor bands and worked extensively on solo repertoire, which I performed at various concerts.
Following my graduation from high school in 2013, I started my degree program in music at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill (UNC) where I took many courses within music theory, music history, world music, music composition, and performance studies. In addition to my coursework, I studied flute privately with world-renowned flutists Dr. Brooks de Wetter-Smith and Dr. Lindsay Leach-Sparks. During my time at UNC, I participated in and performed as a member of the UNC Symphony band, UNC Wind Ensemble, UNC Jazz Band, and the UNC Wind Quintet. I also held two solo concerts and participated in various other concerts including studio concerts and master classes by renowned flutists Robert Stallman, Brad Garner, and Marianne Gidian.
After graduating with a music and psychology degree from UNC in 2017, I decided to pursue a career in science but have continued to be active with music as much as possible. I participated in the Lund University Academic Orchestra in Sweden as a piccolo and first flute player during my masters studies (in animal ecology) at Lund University and have performed at several open-mic events as a classical musician and with other musicians as a folk musician in Lund and Malmö, Sweden. Now I have moved back to the US (Reno,NV), and am looking forward to teaching new students and finding ways to play the flute as much as possible!

Hello future students! I have been giving flute lessons since 2011 for beginner to advanced levels and for all ages. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for music by teaching eager students. I strive to create a positive and comfortable environment for students where they are able to have a lot of input in their own learning and development during the lessons.

Details
I only offer online lessons to students living outside of Reno. I offer in-person lessons only to Reno students (except in special circumstances). I am not currently able to give lessons from home, so I would have to come to you or to a rented/borrowed location. If you would like in-person lessons but live more than 15 minutes away from me, I will add a small transportation fee for gas.
