About Jiyoung
Hi there! I’m currently a Doctoral Candidate in Flute Performance at SUNY, with previous degrees from the Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute and Mannes School of Music at The New School.
Growing up, I was a total practice-holic. Through countless hours of trial and error, I learned exactly how, when, and in what way to practice effectively.
In fact, my passion for learning how to teach more wisely and deeply is what inspired me to pursue my doctorate. Having won prizes and reached the finals in many competitions, I also bring rich performance experience to help you conquer stage fright and perform with confidence.
With 10 years of teaching experience, I tailor every lesson to fit your unique needs—whether you’re picking up the flute for the first time, returning after a long break, looking to build solid fundamentals and efficient practice routines, preparing for auditions, or simply playing your favorite music for fun. We can cover whatever you need!
Above all, my goal is to make our lessons a joyful, therapeutic space where we can play together, relieve stress, and truly enjoy the music. Let’s reach your musical goals in a warm, friendly, and encouraging environment!

About the Lesson In our lessons, we’ll focus on building rock-solid fundamentals—like a rich tone, clear technique, and musical expression—while bringing to life the music that is most meaningful to you.
Every session is 100% customized to your personal goals and learning pace. I welcome everyone, including - Complete beginners picking up the flute for the very first time Returning players coming back to the instrument after a long break Students prepping for auditions, exams, or competitions Flute majors who find practicing alone challenging and need fresh direction and structure Anyone who simply wants to play their favorite tunes just for fun! Whatever you need, we can cover it together.
My biggest goal is to make our time a warm, encouraging, and therapeutic space where you can leave your daily stress at the door and truly enjoy making music.
