About the lesson

I understand that learning a new language can be extremely daunting and I also know that a student's ability to acquire new language skills is dependent upon the manner in which the language is taught as well as their rapport with their teacher.

I have clear memories from my own time as a student learning a new language in secondary school. My teacher insisted upon teaching Mandarin by means of rote learning and completing mindless and mundane exercises. Needless to say, my fellow classmates and I were often disengaged and did not acquire many language skills in these classes.

Learning can be much more meaningful and motivating if it actually serves a purpose. As such, I always ensure that I have a preliminary discussion with my student to outline the outcomes that they hope to achieve as a result of their English language classes and tailor my classes accordingly. I also seek to ascertain the particular style in which a student feels they will be most responsive.

I have been fortunate enough to have acquired significant experience teaching English to students on ten separate trips to China and I currently work as an English teacher for a Chinese online teaching company called DaDa ABC.
