About Shawna
I’m a credentialed California teacher and educational leader with more than 18 years of experience working with students, teachers, and families. Over my career, I’ve served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, school principal, and district-level instructional leader, with extensive experience in literacy and curriculum.
I’ve spent much of my career not only teaching students, but coaching and developing other educators to become stronger teachers. I bring that same expertise to tutoring, along with warmth, patience, humor, and a genuine belief that every student can grow with the right support. My goal is for students to feel both challenged and successful—and to look forward to learning with me.

I believe students learn best when they feel successful, supported, and genuinely enjoy the process. My approach is warm, encouraging, and engaging, with lessons tailored to each student’s strengths, needs, and goals.
Trained in the Science of Reading, I support readers and writers at every stage—from phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension to essay writing, grammar, literary analysis, and advanced academic writing. Whether a student is struggling with foundational skills, tackling a challenging assignment, or ready to take their skills to the next level, I meet them where they are and build from there.
My goal is to make learning fun, build confidence, and give students skills and strategies they can use independently.
