About Keith

Dear Reader,

My name is Keith Sanks, and I am deeply passionate about cybersecurity and education. With a degree in Cybersecurity and extensive professional experience, including work at the NSA and in networking, threat analysis, and digital forensics, I bring both technical expertise and real-world insight to the classroom.

I am committed to ensuring that every student not only understands the curriculum but also gains the confidence to apply their knowledge effectively in the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity. To achieve this, I take a hands-on, student-centered approach to teaching:

I set clear, achievable learning objectives to guide students step by step through complex concepts.

I design practical exercises and real-world simulations to bring theory to life, helping students build skills they can immediately apply.

I create engaging lessons using multimedia, case studies, and interactive discussions to address diverse learning styles and maintain interest.

I provide continuous feedback through quizzes, group projects, and one-on-one support to track progress and tackle individual challenges.

I foster an inclusive and supportive environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and explore new ideas.

My goal is to inspire and empower students to not only master the curriculum but to leave with the tools and confidence to thrive in their careers. I look forward to working together to build a safer, more secure digital future.

Sincerely,
Keith Sanks

Lessons in Cybersecurity

As a professional in cybersecurity, I've designed these lessons to build foundational knowledge and advanced skills in protecting digital systems and networks. These lessons will include:

Cybersecurity Fundamentals: Understanding the core principles of cybersecurity, including confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA triad).

Network Security: Identifying vulnerabilities, securing network infrastructure, and implementing firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).

Encryption and Cryptography: Exploring symmetric and asymmetric encryption methods, secure key management, and how to implement encryption protocols like AES, RSA, and SSL/TLS to protect sensitive data and communications.

Digital Forensics: Teaching techniques to investigate and recover data from compromised systems while preserving evidence for legal purposes.

Threat Analysis and Incident Response: Recognizing potential cyber threats, conducting risk assessments, and responding effectively to security incidents.

Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking: Simulating attacks to test defenses, identify weaknesses, and propose solutions to fortify systems.

Compliance and Legal Standards: Educating on regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, FISMA, and the importance of legal compliance in cybersecurity operations.

Cloud Security: Addressing the unique challenges of securing cloud-based systems and implementing best practices for data protection.

Social Engineering and Human Factors: Understanding how attackers exploit human behavior and training individuals to recognize and counteract these tactics.

Cybersecurity Tools and Platforms: Providing hands-on training with tools like Wireshark, Metasploit, Splunk, and Kali Linux for practical experience in securing systems.

Each lesson will integrate encryption concepts with real-world applications, ensuring individuals are equipped to protect sensitive data, implement secure communication channels, and handle today’s complex cybersecurity challenges effectively.
