About DaQuan

Hello! My name is DaQuan, and I am a dedicated educator with a lifelong passion for the English language and the art of communication. My journey with English began through a love for literature and storytelling, which eventually led me to pursue tutoring as a way to help others find their own voice. I hold an English degree from DePaul University, which has provided me with a deep understanding of linguistics, rhetoric, and academic writing standards. Throughout my years of experience, I have worked with a diverse range of learners, from students struggling with basic grammar to advanced writers looking to refine their prose. I pride myself on being a professional who is not only knowledgeable but also highly punctual, organized, and empathetic to the challenges of learning. I understand that every student learns differently, and my goal is to provide a stable, encouraging environment where you feel supported in your academic or professional journey. When I am not tutoring, I am usually reading contemporary fiction or honing my own writing skills, ensuring that I stay sharp and inspired for my students. I am committed to your success and look forward to helping you reach your full potential in English.

My Teaching Philosophy & Approach I believe that mastering English is about building confidence through a mix of structured grammar and immersive conversation. My approach is student-centered; I move away from rigid, "one-size-fits-all" textbooks and instead use real-world materials like news articles, literature, or professional emails to make the language come alive. I focus on creating a safe space where making mistakes is seen as a vital part of the learning process. What a Typical Lesson Looks Like Each 60-minute session is divided into three distinct phases to ensure maximum retention: The Warm-up (10 mins): A casual conversation or "Review Quiz" to activate the vocabulary learned in the previous session. Core Instruction (30 mins): We dive into a specific goal, such as mastering a complex verb tense, analyzing a literary text, or refining an essay structure. Active Practice (20 mins): We apply the lesson through role-playing, timed writing exercises, or debate to ensure you can use the knowledge independently. Who These Lessons Are For I work with a wide range of students, specifically: Middle and High School Students needing help with essay writing, reading comprehension, and exam preparation. University Students looking to polish their academic papers or thesis statements. ESL Learners (Beginner to Advanced) who want to improve their fluency for work or travel. What Sets Me Apart What truly distinguishes my tutoring is my ability to simplify complex linguistic rules into easy-to-remember mental models. I don't just teach you what to say; I teach you the logic behind the language so you can eventually become your own editor. I am deeply patient, highly organized, and committed to seeing my students reach their "Aha!" moments.
