About Joy
Most people think great songs just appear out of thin air, but the reality is that writing is closer to a craft than a mystical event. I started my path by breaking down the hits I admired until the mechanics became second nature.
After teaching 157 students, I realise that the best songs come from specific constraints. I hold a BMus from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
This formal foundation helps me guide adult learners and content creators through the messy middle of a project. My personal narrative is built on 8 years of navigating real projects. I love watching the moment a student turns a vague feeling into a concrete lyric. It is deeply rewarding work.

You have exactly 3 minutes to tell a story that lands. I personalise every session by analysing the specific narrative point of view you are currently exploring. Using the technical rigour from my BMus at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, I help you refine your rhyme schemes and metre. We look at your chord progressions to ensure they support the emotional weight of your lyrics.
Over 8 years of coaching, I have found that structure is the best tool for finishing a song. I work with students and teens to sharpen their storytelling in songs until the bridge connects perfectly. Bring a draft you are stuck on, and we can take a look.
