About Becca
My name is Becca and I am starting a masters course at the University of Leeds in September. I have been playing piano since I was six and it has been one of my favourite ways to relax for as long as I can remember. Throughout my time learning the piano, I have discovered more and more about the multitude of ways music can be fun and interesting. It really is such a diverse discipline.
In terms of working with younger people, I have volunteered with multiple Brownies’ units since I was 14 and have found this extent rewarding. I have learnt the importance of of tailoring teaching to different personalities, not everyone learns the same.

As a teacher of beginners piano, I understand the importance of repetition and practice. However it is vital to pair this with interesting and exciting methods. For example, with younger students, learning songs they may have heard before and changing things up regularly is important.
I also put emphasis on teaching students the underlying mechanics of music, including learning scales and the theory that will aid in the understanding of music in general.
Techniques such as joining notes, lifting off and musicality will also be emphasised to improve the students playing. But most of all, I will create an extremely fun and friendly environment as I beleive people learn more effective under these circumstances.
