About Sam
My name is Sam and I teach economics. My goal as a tutor is to make economics as interesting and exciting as I know it can be and in the process help my students achieve top marks in their exams.
I've worked with over 60 students of all levels and abilities from A-level students struggling to cope with a brand new subject to undergrads chasing a First. I teach a wide variety of courses and subjects related to economics.
I have experience with the following A-level exam boards: Edexcel, AQA, OCR, WJEC, Cambridge Pre-U.
There are three things that set my tutorials apart from any other class or lesson. Firstly, I work with the student to establish their academic goals. These can range from achieving a certain grade in an end-of-year exam to help to understanding a certain concept for an upcoming essay. Whatever it is, I make sure these goals are realistic and establish a plan that will put the student in the best position to achieve them.
Secondly, I make sure every tutorial is a conversation. In a classroom, it is too easy for a student to zone out. My students are expected to take an active role in each tutorial. Key concepts and theories are taught through discussion and tested by application. This highlights what a student finds most difficult and the immediate feedback then forms the basis for future lessons.
Finally, I try to make every lesson interesting and engaging for the student. Economics explores the "hidden side of everything", seeking to explain why humans behave the way we do. Sadly, its teaching is often mind-numbingly boring, reducing the subject down to a series of diagrams and formulae. But context, application and real-world examples bring the subject to life and encourage students to fully engage with it, resulting in a stronger understanding of economics and better exam results.
