My approach to tutoring is firstly to asses the level of the tutee with a test that covers basic vocabulary and grammar requirements university or GCSE/A-level boards. I prefer to do 2-hour lessons, as the time can be split into a focus on a grammar and vocab unit per lesson, as well as a significant portion of time allotted for speaking practise; really the only way to become more fluent is talking, which can be understandably daunting in classroom situations.
My special skill is jumping the grade boundaries, as I have many tricks and tips up my sleeve to impress examiners who seem to have very binary requirements that, when understood, are easy to fulfil. It remains extremely important to me, however, that the student learns about the culture surrounding the languages too, and what better cultures to immerse yourself in than those of France and Italy!
I am a recent French and Italian Ma graduate from the University of Edinburgh, where I gained a 1st class honours with a distinction in Italian speaking. I am now set to continue my studies by completing a MSC in management this coming year.
I would love the opportunity to tutor languges, as not only do I get to continue speaking myself, but hopefully I can spread some enthusiasm for language learning, which is so important nowadays.
I formally tutored students for French oral and French grammar GCSE's during my A-levels, and have tutored several university students in French and Italian throughout my degree. All of my students achieve good grades, with some almost doubling their original exam scores.
During my Year Abroad in Florence, I took part in a 10 week initiative to tutor members of the local community in English, whilst the lessons were held entirely in Italian.
All results have been extremely positive!
If I need to travel outside of the city or more than 1 hour on the bus I will need to charge £4 for costs.
