About Nicholas
I am an EFL teacher with an MA in Linguistics and with 40 years working all over the world mostly for the British Council. I have a lot of experience teaching Military English and in preparing students for IELTs. For the last 7 years I have been based in Brighton where I have been working in local English language schools teaching EFL to teenagers mostly from Europe and China.

I practise the communicative approach to teaching English, creating the optimum classroom conditions and atmosphere for all students (not just the best ones) to communicate in English in meaningful contexts. I believe in accuracy as well as fluency and I love teaching grammar and pronunciation. Some examples of my favourite teaching techniques are role-play, simulations, communication gap pair work and problem solving group work. I like student-centred correction techniques for both oral and written student work. I love using computer language programmes in class using a laptop and multi-media projector.

if the student lives very far from central Brighton, travel cost will be £10 per class. If student cancels at the last minute or doesn't show, I will charge £15 for the hour
