With five years of professional experience spanning a wide array of mediums—from traditional oils and acrylics to mixed media and digital expression—my teaching approach centers on personal artistic discovery rather than rigid technique. Having spent decades exploring diverse styles, I guide students through the foundational principles of color theory, composition, and brushwork while encouraging them to experiment and break traditional boundaries. I teach oil painting by stripping away the intimidation and focusing on practical, step-by-step techniques that anyone can master. We start with the absolute essentials—understanding your brushes, basic mediums, and the golden "fat over lean" rule—before blocking in simple shapes using a very limited color palette. By restricting color choices early on, students can focus entirely on mastering light, shadow, and composition without feeling overwhelmed by complex mixing. From there, I guide them through building layers and adding texture at their own pace, ensuring they leave not just with a finished canvas, but with the practical confidence and foundational skills to continue painting on their own.
