About Grace
Online class or face-to-face physical tuition at Tutor's place in Bukit Batok. Homework will ALWAYS be given after every class and all lesson materials will be provided in softcopy form. There will never be a lesson where homework is not assigned. Customized materials to suit/stretch the student's ability/potential will be provided to him/her. Thorough experience in and also well-equipped with the necessary resources to help guide secondary school students across the different streams (from foundation to standard, from those aiming to pass, to those seeking to excel further). Also confident in building rapport comfortably with students at a friendly level while maintaining the requisite strictness / firmness as a mentor / coach, making needful judgement calls at my discretion. I am a graduate full time tutor of 7 yrs teaching experience, specializing in upper pri/sec school students. Able to engage kids of varied learning styles (ADHD/dyslexic learners requiring alternative teaching methods to keep them captivated) with learning aids. Helped ALL my pupils improve in the subjects/areas engaged for, delivering results parents are happy with (e.g helped kids who have been failing to pass in 1-2 months upon first instance of engagement & likewise for those who wish to attain mastery ('A'/'Band 1') in the subject they're being tutored in. P6 Maths failing since P5, engaged on 26 Jun 23, got 60% for timed practice to 67.5% for prelims to B for PSLE. P6 Science from 32% for timed practice to 46% for prelims to C for prelims. P6 Science engaged on 7 Jul 23, from 88% for timed practice to 96% for prelims to A* for PSLE. P6 Maths from 92% for timed practice to 96% for prelims to A* for PSLE. I am a resolute believer in building relationships with primary school children before dispensing the professional duties of a teacher. I fully trust in the element of personal connection and touch with students as an effective gateway for both them and yourself - a teacher, mentor, and coach - to receive and impart knowledge meaningfully. Passionate and sincere about my job as I firmly believe in the potentially vast extent of influence a teacher has on her kids, being responsible for their holistic development as an individual of character and with respectable values as a person, not just being solely accomplished in their academics. I prize the growth of my child's character and the blossoming of his own identity/personality before his grades (e.g. I often help to build and bolster their confidence in their weak subjects first, rather than simply having them do questions after questions in a mundane, and often meaningless, manner). Only when he has regained his self-confidence would I move into honing his technical skills of interpreting and answering questions. Nonetheless, I also observe the professionalism and technical competencies expected/demanded of a teacher and would hence not shortchange them of any opportunities for learning or neglect their areas of weakness in the subjects they are being tutored in.

Has also dealt with a few pupils with behavioural impairments that might make "conventional" learning difficult / unsuitable for them. My response would be to tailor the lesson and materials to suit and compliment the students' preferences and needs instead, rather than simply force "route" learning upon them (when they are already struggling academically). Also, I am a firm believer of a strong teacher-pupil relationship as kids would be more receptive to a teacher who is both a friend and a mentor, someone they can look up to and/or even confide in.
Passionate and able to help students perform better in their academics by forging a lasting teacher-pupil relationship with them. Drawing from my own past and personal experience as one, and from the feedback of my ex-pupils, students would feel more comfortable and hence encouraged to seek help in their studies when the environment is a conducive, stress-free and motivational one for learning. Rest assured I will still maintain my professionalism as a teacher throughout. Also provide tutoring on specialised/targeted areas e.g Creative/Composition Writing which is what I am presently doing for one of my kids.
