About Stuart
For over 14 years following a psychotic episode and associated chronic and severe depression I consumed dangerous levels of alcohol to try and manage most of my symptoms> I obtained some relief from self medicating but the adverse effects and risks were such that I was in fact near killing myself.
With tremendous help from Dual Diagnosis staff in CNWL I finally managed to quit regular and heavy drinking but unfortunately mt Treatment Resistant Depression remained with me, often to a crippling degree.
With years of no relief whatsoever from dozens of antidepressants which I was prescribed I made a sober decision one day to use amphetamine on a daily bases. I was not using recreationally in anyway whatsoever, but years earlier from a couple of times when I had used the drug even at very low or moderate doses I was stuck by its huge antidepressant properties in my case at least.

I have been a patient in secondary mental health services for 21 years. For much of that time I regularly engaged with Dual Diagnosis Services as a service user who self medicated with both alcohol and stimulants for many years.
I frequently deliver and participate in training courses mainly run by Dual Diagnosis Services for those who have a working interest with such a client base.
Now recovered from heavy alcohol use and with a prescription for a stimulant medication I fairly well in all areas of life.
My role in training is totally experience based with emphasis on how to achieve beneficial engagement with such a client group and harm reduction stratergies.
