English Literature and French student, interested in passing on my knowledge of these subjects. Based in Exeter.

Methodology

I am a hard-working, creative and conscientious student, studying English Literature and French at Bangor University. I would be interested in giving lessons to students studying for their GCSEs. Although I have never taught previously, I would use interactive games that would enable the students to enjoy the lessons whilst simultaneously learning the content.

Background

• As a Petty Officer at Exeter School’s Navy I was able to develop leadership skills through leading and teaching younger cadets. In the Navy, I also developed team-work skills, which has enabled me to work well with other people.
• I have gained communication skills through being a teaching assistant at Exeter’s School Dance Club, French Club and Exeter Cathedral School’s sports club. I have also participated in a Communication Skills programme called ‘3C Academy’ which has improved my presentation skills and lead to my participation in a challenging debate.
• As a school Prefect my responsibility was to attend school concerts as ‘front of house’ where I would meet and greet people and ensure they were welcomed. It is a responsible role which sometimes requires a calm head dealing with problems the public may have.
• At University, I was the Co- Head of the DJ Society. This has allowed me to further develop my leadership skills through teaching others how to mix, as well as organising events.

Work Experience

Teaching Assistant, Exeter Cathedral School
June 2014 – July 2014

At Exeter Cathedral School I worked with children from the age of 3 to 10, my experience of a teaching assistant included:

• listening to children read, reading to them or telling stories
• Taking care and comforting children if they had an accident or were upset
• helping to organise and take part in school activities, sports events and outings

My work experience demonstrated that a good teacher needs to be patient and committed to support the children and their needs at all times. I enjoyed the working environment, the teamwork and the diversity of the job, and the job satisfaction one gets from working with children.

Other qualifications

• Full UK driving licence.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and PowerPoint.

Hobbies and Interests

At University, I have been learning Spanish through the Languages for All beginner and intermediate classes. As well as learning the language, this has enabled me to learn about Spanish culture.

I have taken part in expeditions such as the Duke of Edinburgh bronze walking expedition and Abbots way walk, these walks have required me to work as a team. Although, I was not the leader of these teams I lent a good ear, participated actively and pushed the team to the success that we deserved.

In the past, I learnt to play the drums, this has enabled me to pick up and learn new things quickly, as well as being able to take part in musical events within school. I have enjoyed performing as a dancer in school plays and house dance competitions, as well as Bangor University’s Indian Society’s events.
