I'm typically a patient and relaxed tutor. I'm typically not authoritative. However, if I feel a student is not sincerely trying, or is lacking basic manners, then my disposition will change. I do not demand or expect students to be at a high level straightaway.

I tend to teach writing structures first. I try to lay those foundations first so that my students have a better chance at being able to smoothly transform everything taught thereafter into their own coherent, flowing paragraphs. I am used to students not being aware that different exam questions require the use of different writing structures before they work with me.
