I am a mathematics student working towards a mathematics honours degree followed by a PGDE in secondary teaching. I've tutored students in the past and boosted grades from F to B within 3 months.

My first lesson I prefer to go over a past paper and find out which topics have been covered and which are weaker than others. This way I will not present unfamiliar topics and confuse students. As the lessons and teachings progress as do the topics we study. I do believe practice is perfect especially in mathematics - you cannot repeat things too many times when revising mathematics.
