Experienced and friendly cello teacher based in Colchester offering engaging cello lessons to students of any age, ability or level! (with DBS)

Methodology

I am a friendly, approachable and enthusiastic teacher who loves to pass on my passion for music to others and encourage my pupils to reach their potential. I understand how every pupil is different and I adapt my teaching to their age and ability. My lessons are always fun and I make sure my pupils come out of every lesson having learnt something new.

Experience

I have 10 years experience cello teaching in both schools and privately – Through the years, I have taught pupils of various ages and levels and have prepared students for grade exams both ABRSM and Trinity with 100% success.
I have also been a music assistant at a Primary School in London, which has given me a huge amount of experience working with children of all ages.

Having enjoyed playing the cello since the age of 4, I also have had vast experience performing in solo, chamber and orchestral concerts. I have gained a BMus (Hons), MMus (distinction), and Postgraduate Advanced Diploma (distinction) degrees in cello performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where I have won multiple awards and scholarships, including the Barbirolli Memorial award for solo cello for 2015 and 2016 and the Edgar TP Comley certificate of excellence for 2017.

In 2018, I was accepted into the Britten Pears Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop, performing in Snape Maltings and was also given orchestral training from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Being a founding member of the Camilli String Quartet, formed in 2013, I have had a huge amount of experience in chamber music; performing recitals and concerts across the UK, as well as at weddings and corporate events. ((concealed information)

Among other eminent musicians, I have performed in Masterclasses with well known Cellists such as Raphael Wallfisch, Martin Lohr; Principal cellist of the Berlin Philharmonic, Natalie Clein, Alexander Bailie, Lionel Handy, Daniel Veis, Leonid Gorokhov, Alexander Ivashkin, Leonid Elschenbroch and Julien Lloyd Webber.

I am a mature student who took up the cello at the age of 60. Olivia has been my teacher for nearly six years and steered me through grades 1 and grade 3 exams, would have been 4 too had it not been for Covid. Olivia is an extremely gifted and talented cellist and a most encouraging, empathetic and patient teacher who manages to improve technique through lots of interesting music and fun exercises. I have no hesitation in recommending her for pupils of all ages and skill levels. I first found Olivia from Trinity College when she was studying for a Masters degree, she has always been reliable and understanding of my particular limitations.

Olivia is a great cellist in both teaching and performing. She is highly qualified with great teaching experience. Olivia approaches her work with commitment and seriousness and is highly recommended by me to many students.

Olivia is a really good, friendly and professional cello teacher and great performer, both in chamber and orchestral music! I have known her for 3 years now as a colleague and I highly recommend her to anyone interested to learn cello with solid foundations. She has long experience with children and adult students of any level. Any students she prepares for graded exams (ABRSM, Trinity etc.) always have great results!
