About Sophie
I first wanted to play the cello when I was 7 years old, after listening to Saint-Saëns' 'The Swan' being performed at a local concert. Shortly after, I began to have cello lessons, and absolutely loved it!
I have been lucky to study with fantastic teachers during my education, most recently with David Cohen (principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra).
I have been mentored by the London Symphony orchestra and the Royal Opera House on training schemes.
I studied the cello at Trinity Laban for my master's degree and I studied at Durham University for my music undergraduate degree. I also have a PGCE in group instrumental teaching.
I am friendly and approachable, fully DBS checked, and have extensive training in safeguarding.
After graduating from Durham, I spent three years working in two of the UK's specialist music schools; the Purcell School and Wells Cathedral School. Working here gave me extensive experience teaching 1-1, and in small groups and ensembles.
I live in Greenwich, normally travelling to teach at my pupil's houses in south or central London, or teaching online.

Sophie is an excellent teacher. I am an adult beginner, and in just an hour she managed to fix all of the major problems that I have been having (so far!), and has made me feel comfortable practising on my own until our next lesson. Highly recommended!
Sophie is an excellent musician and diligent, hardworking tutor who would do her utmost to help any student improve their musical capabilities and understanding. I would highly recommend her as a tutor and have also enjoyed performing together with her in the past in our string quartet.
Sophie is very Knowledgeable in her area and always willing to take on a new challenge. Having worked alongside her for the last year I cannot recomend her enough.
