I enjoy passing on musical skills to anyone with an interest; whether you want to take your first steps into the industry, or be able to play a few songs with your friends at parties, I am more than happy to help.
My main aim is to make sure that lessons are engaging, enjoyable, and effective at all times and I do this by working closely with students to make sure that their needs are met; similarly that we're working on the topics that they're interested in.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Musicianship, and have 17 years experience in playing both electric and classical guitar, and electric and upright bass. I studied both guitar and bass at the prestigious Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in Kilburn as a scholarship student, where I received first hand tuition from some of the UK’s finest session musicians. Their techniques and expertise have greatly informed both my playing and my teaching. As a result of this, I and well versed in Rockschool and LCM grading systems, amongst others.
Joel is a singer, guitarist and teacher. He teaches acoustic, electric and bass guitars, as well as vocals.
It was inevitable that being born into a family with two dogs named after blues musicians that Joel would go on to develop a lifelong love and fascination with music in all its forms. Coming from a musical family steeped in the Northern folk tradition, he has been singing and playing since he was big enough to hold an instrument, and is now an international session musician, performer, and teacher specialising in bass guitar, double bass, electric and acoustic guitar, and vocals.
After graduating from the prestigious Institute of Contemporary Music Performance where I was a scholarship student, my enthusiasm, expertise, and eminently personable demeanour have led to me recording, gigging, and touring with some of the finest bands and artists in the UK, such as the Mike King Collective (Mark Ronson, Angelique Kidjo, Florence Welch) Leo Napier (Gramatik, Raekwon, Griz), Kyan, The Robert J Hunter Band, and James Numbere (The 1975, The London Community Gospel Choir). I have also played at some of the UK’s most respected venues and festivals, such as Downstairs at Ronnie Scott’s, British Summer Time in Hyde Park, 110 Above, and Servant Jazz Quarters. This varied real world experience enables me to tailor every lesson to suit the student’s requirements, regardless of their skill level or goals. Similarly, my training in musical theatre ensures that every lesson is dynamic and engaging.
My cancellation fee is half the lesson fee if cancelled 2 days before, and the full lesson fee if cancelled within 24 hours of the lesson taking place.
