About Vicky
I’m a fully qualified geography teacher, with QTS and a recent DBS check (April 2018). I have 13 years experience teaching secondary Geography at an outstanding comprehensive school in Oxfordshire. I worked as Subject Leader and Faculty Leader for Humanities and built a Geography department team with GCSE and A level results that have been consistently above the national average. The number of students taking Geography at the school and going on to read Geography at university grew significantly and GCSE and A level classes doubled in size. I‘ve enjoyed teaching students and seeing them progress from year 7 up to year 13 (aged 11-18) and I have a wealth of experience teaching GCSE and A level.
I studied Geography at the University of Bristol and later obtained my Post-Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Oxford. In recent years, I’ve taken a lead in developing courses to meet the demands of the new GCSE and A level specifications, mentoring other teachers and curriculum leaders. I’m a member of the Geographical Association and have attended conferences and courses to develop a greater understanding of assessment and marking for geography, which has improved teacher feedback and student performance.

I’ve been tutoring privately for the past 2 years, and have prepared students for a variety of exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel and OCR, and for GCSE, A Level and iGCSE.
I have a real passion for Geography and enjoy teaching students a wide variety of topics, including human and physical geography, and geographical skills and fieldwork. I have a coaching style and help students identify their target areas – knowledge or skills gaps – so that I can support them with effective explanations to develop their understanding. I teach effective essay-writing and help students to develop their answers to practice questions. I can provide online resources and revision materials and can offer online tutoring.
