About John
I have a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from the University of Sheffield where I studied after gaining my BSc in Genetics from Newcastle University. I most recently worked at the University of Edinburgh as a Post-doctoral Research Associate and have experience in industry in the healthcare sector.

With previous experience tutoring GCSE and A-level Maths and Biology to students in England as well as Nat3 through to Highers here in Edinburgh. I also value and focus on exam technique, as I believe it is crucial that a student is able to communicate and show what they know. I am excited to get back into tutoring and am very familiar with planning and tailoring lessons to suit an individual tutee's needs. I find it very important to first assess the potential tutee and then set attainable goals to work towards. I use a variety of resources depending on the needs or interests of the student, ranging from classic teaching tools (such as tailor-made printouts and worksheets) to more modern approaches such as online apps. I believe the most important thing is to engage with the person I am trying to teach, as if they are not interested in learning tutoring becomes twice as difficult.
