Whilst I am a practising marine engineer, I also have experience teaching classes of 20+ students aged 16 - 30. I also have experience working with KS2 students in the classroom.
I am qualified to Masters level and can assist with all stages up to degree level.
I am happy to adapt my teaching style to meet individual requirements: from specific studies to more general lectures.
I have over 20 years experience as a marine engineer. I have worked on many complex systems and machinery on board ships, teaching thermodynamics and fluid mechanics at foundation degree level and system design, including complex calculations.

Senior Marine Engineer:
Responsible for plan approval of all mechanical systems on designated ships. To ensure designs are in accordance with the specification and compliant with Rules and legislation.
To offer expertise in areas of specialism: ballast, bilge, scuppers, wastewater, solid waste, potable water and piping.
To offer technical support to warranty claims from new ships in service, as allocated.
Research and stay up to date with technical developments in the industry and areas of expertise.

Senior Mechanical Engineer:
Undertaking a feasibility study into a hybrid powertrain for a luxury yacht. Responsible for early design phase of the mechanical aspects of a small, high speed military vessel, operating under demanding conditions. Working to a high standard, under tight time restrictions and mechanical challenges, with a team of two draughtsmen. Undertaking system design and piping calculations.
IMO Compliance Consultant:
Ensuring that a new radar design and functionality is compliant with IMO / MarED requirements. Guidance through the Type Approval process, including company quality control audit and all paperwork necessary to achieve Type Approval status.
Newbuild vessel plan approval and development for piping, machinery and HVAC systems, in accordance with Class, international and national legislation and customer requirements.
Production of certification documents for steering gear and stabiliser systems installed on board a military vessel.
Producing articles, blogs and informational pieces for third party clients. Covering a range of subjects, including: politics, marine engineering, HVAC, civil engineering, wastewater.
Independent review of lube oil systems for gas turbine and diesel generator alternator packages installed on board a military vessel. To include a technical review of the systems and installations, identification of single point failures, recommendations for improvement.

Marine Plan Approval Engineer:
Plan approval of drawings and specifications of systems and equipment for new cruise ships; including suitability for purpose and regulatory compliance. Areas of responsibility included: solid and liquid waste collection and treatment, steering gear and systems, ventilation and AC, bilge and ballast systems, potable water production, treatment and distribution, recreational water facilities treatment and filling, fuel and lube oil systems, compressed air systems and deck drainages.
Attendance of factory tests, research into new equipment and regulations.
Attendance at sea trials: supervision of system and equipment commissioning and tests (including power and propulsion acceptance, ballasting / deballasting, engine room ventilation, boiler accumulation tests, engine room smoke tests, watertight door closing, smoke density monitoring at load steps, speed trial, crash stop, thruster manoeuvring, endurance trial, wastewater treatment plant, fresh water production, steering gear trials, stabiliser systems, chillers, shaftline), following approved test memos and legislation, where appropriate.
Advisor regarding environmental legislation (particularly solid and liquid wastes) for operators and work closely with the corporate compliance department.
Operational advisor to corporate working group for wastewater treatment plant project.
In service support for new vessels relating to defects and failures.
Maintaining a safe watch in engine room and control room. Operation and condition monitoring of all shipboard machinery and systems, within corporate policies and environmental management system.
In charge of fire fighting party for rapid response and in charge of a passenger lifeboat.
Responsibility for the sewage treatment system and ship propulsion systems on board (azipods), with two workers and direct reporting to the Chief Engineer.
Officer responsible for overseeing engine room maintenance team (approximately 15 workers): carrying out all equipment isolations, monitoring and supervising work (for example; diesel engine overhauls, pump overhauls, air compressor maintenance, fuel system maintenance, system modifications, stripping auxiliary boilers for survey), ensuring all environmental and safety protocols followed (permit to work, tagging out, PPE, enclosed space entry).
Senior Training Provider:
Delivery of Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics course at foundation degree level to Artificer apprentices in the Royal Navy. Responsible for lesson planning, researching up to date and new materials, involvement in course and documentation structure, examination marking and assessment, some maintenance of equipment in the laboratory.
Course included thermofluids theory, diesel and gas turbine theory, practical applications.
