About Jay

I was born in Basel, Switzerland, and German is my native language. I studied business administration, marketing, art, and English–German translation, which has given me a solid foundation in both language and communication. I have been teaching German for more than 25 years, working with students of all ages and levels, from absolute beginners to advanced speakers. My long experience allows me to adapt to each student’s needs with patience and precision, making lessons both effective and enjoyable. Alongside teaching, I am also a fine artist. I enjoy working in a variety of media — painting, drawing, installation, film, sculpture, and performance — though painting remains my primary focus. My creative background often enriches my lessons, helping me bring language to life in fresh and engaging ways.

About the lesson

I am a native German speaker with over 25 years of teaching experience.
I specialise in explaining difficult grammar with precision. If you have struggled with cases, word order, or sentence structure, I break them down clearly and show you how to use them correctly in real situations.
I work analytically. I do not just correct mistakes. I identify why you make them and address the root of the problem. This leads to faster and more lasting progress.
Lessons are focused and structured, but always adapted to the student. You will speak, be corrected, and improve step by step. We can work intensively on specific goals or develop fluency through conversation, depending on what you need.
I teach all levels, from complete beginners to advanced learners. Beginners receive a clear and structured foundation from the start. More advanced students refine accuracy, fluency, and confidence.
Suitable for
learners who want a solid foundation or want to break through a plateau
professionals who need accurate and reliable German
students who want both clear explanations and real speaking practice
If you want to improve your German with clarity and consistency, you will benefit from these lessons.

He has a great way of spotting exactly where things go wrong and fixing them quickly. The sessions feel efficient and you actually move forward each time.

I had struggled with German grammar for a long time, especially cases and sentence structure. This was the first time it actually started to make sense.

What makes the difference is the way things are explained. Instead of just correcting mistakes, he shows you why they happen, which helps you improve much faster.

The lessons are focused but still relaxed, and I feel more confident speaking after each session. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to make real progress.

Jay is an exceptionally effective German language teacher with a proven and long track record on other platforms, which is how I know of him. His methods are the most accessible that I’ve come across in terms of his ability to explain complex grammar in ways that are memorable and make sense. He delivers everything with warmth, patience and humour, whilst being extremely structured, rigorous and knowledgeable about language, etymology and cultural and historical context.
