About Zara
I hold a Ph.D in Medical Biochemistry and PCGHE (post-graduate) teaching qualification from the University of Kent. I have over 15 years research and teaching experience at University level (including the University of Bristol and University of Kent) and ten years experience as a tutor. Having worked as a research scientist for many years, I have both a theoretical and practical understanding of the sciences - this perspective is something my students find invaluable, as it helps them understand how science in the textbook links to everyday life and technological advances. I teach AQA, OCR A OCR B and Edexcel SNAB exam boards, and have a bank of past exam question papers that I go through with the student at the end of each topic. I am an examiner with AQA, and in the past have worked as an examiner with Edexcel & OCR A. This experience has given me a chance to delve deeper into the exam marking system. I will give you exam-board specific tips on how best to phrase your answer to match the mark scheme requirements. I come across as a friendly and motivated teacher. Tutoring takes place in a relaxed but goal-oriented atmosphere. I strongly believe that negative barriers with studies can be turned into positive outcomes with correct guidance

I offer professional, individualised, lessons in A Level Chemistry, for all exam boards at A Level, including AQA, OCR A, OCR B, Edexcel Chemistry and WJEC. I have over 15 years research and teaching experience, and 10 years exam-marking experience. Lessons are designed to foster deeper understanding of a topic, and develop confidence with exam questions. While keeping lessons fun and interesting, I also push each student slightly outside their usual learning zone in a lesson, so that they can start believing in their ability to solve all variety of complex questions that come up in exams. Lessons always involve a two-way interaction - I welcome questions and inquisitive minds! Each topic is accompanied by a past paper question set, and marked according to the exam board style - I will highlight key points needed to score marks in the exam when going through the practice questions. I can also help with planning and structuring revision. Many of my students see a rapid improvement in grades after a few months of regular tutoring, and more importantly, they start trusting in their capability to do well under pressure, which is a valuable skill to develop for exams.
