About Sandra
During my life as a student and as a researcher in Italy, I have worked as a Maths tutor for primary and secondary students, trying to make the subject engaging, fun and comprehensible to them and letting them improve their Maths grades.
The sense of reward that I have felt as a result gave me the initial spark of inspiration to become a teacher.
More than ten years ago, after having obtained my qualified teacher status, I started my journey into teaching in Italy. During my more than six year experience teaching Mathematics and Science to 11 to 14 years old students in Italy, I have always found it as a deeply challenging profession as well as an exciting and rewarding one.
After moving to London, I obtained my QTS status and at the beginning of the current academic year I began volunteering as a Maths support at a Secondary School in Islington. Here I have been involved with classes of Key Stage 3 and 4, having the opportunity to help out during the lessons and to learn so much about the approach to teaching in the UK, the National Curriculum and a wide series of aspects of the profession. It has represented a very interesting opportunity to get involved and get experience in a London based school. Since January 2019 I have spent most of my time at school tutoring small groups of year 11 students that were preparing for their GCSE examinations.
Seeing them improving and getting more confident with Maths has been a great reward to me!

My aim is to create a friendly and amicable environment for tutees which maximises each student's learning potential.
I plan tailored lessons depending on the learning style of my students, differentiating the resources to make the students engaged and to let them reflect on their own learning experiences.
I keep myself up-to-date on my subject matter and I am available to help my students while they practice in the intervals between lessons, if and when needed.
