About Ana-Lavinia
My name is Lavinia and I am a classical violinist and graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in Marylebone, London. I am passionate about sharing music with others particularly through teaching and mentoring aspiring musicians. I have been teaching for many years and work with musicians of all levels and ages, preparing them for concerts, auditions and exams. I am happy to teach students with a variety of goals for their musical development. Whether for a hobby or more serious involvement, I will put my utmost effort into providing unique lessons directed towards your individual learning style and objectives! My biography can be found below: Ana-Lavinia Vlad completed her Bachelor of Music (Hons) at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Professor Joshua Fisher, following two years of working with Remus Azoitei. From Romania, to Canada, to America and finally to London – Lavinia has migrated to many stages and teachers in order to feed her love of music. During her studies, she has had the pleasure of playing alongside the Academy’s Symphony Orchestra in the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall and has had various performances in London’s Cadogan Hall, St. Paul’s Covent Garden and multiple popular concert venues. She has also had the opportunity to work with amazing musicians and conductors including Sir Mark Elder, Robert Trevino, Thomas Gould, Jac van Steen and Marin Alsop. Lavinia has won numerous Canadian awards from the Kiwanis Music Festival, Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Youth Orchestra and competitions she has attended. She has also, for multiple years, been a top prize winner of the Canadian Music Competition. She enjoys performing alongside the Fidelio Quartet and has participated in countless orchestral performances, many times leading orchestras such as the Horton Chamber Orchestra, the KWS Youth Orchestra and the Firebird Orchestra. In 2014, Lavinia had her solo debut with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, alongside American conductor John Morris Russell at the Centre in the Square, which is regarded as “one of the finest performance spaces in North America”. Following her debut, she was invited back to perform with the orchestra on multiple occasions, playing prominent repertoire such as Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole and the Sibelius Violin Concerto.

When I begin teaching an individual, especially beginners, I make sure that I inspire them and teach them the value and beauty of music. I am very thorough about teaching technique properly so that it will last and be an asset in one's musical future, but I still like to keep my students on their toes and excited about actually making music and adding life to the notes they draw out of their instruments. Each individual is different and has different goals they wish to achieve with their playing, thus, for me it is very important to establish a connection with my students and cater each lesson to their specific needs and learning style. I have had the pleasure of sharing my love of music with musicians of all ages ever since I began teaching the violin in 2014. I teach both young and mature students, focusing my energy on private lessons. I have also had the opportunity to work with groups of young children at summer programmes in collaboration with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. Perfect! Clear and easy to understand.
Perfect! A very worthwhile lesson thank you. Now I'm playing with a better posture and improved RH / LH articulation. I'm able to play without experiencing any aches or tension, and am therefore making more progress.

Lavinia helped me work towards my ARSM diploma and I achieved a distinction. I have had many teachers over the years, but I can say she is the best! She consistently motivated me to improve, while still instilling a love for and appreciation of the violin. I am always excited for her lessons and leave them feeling confident and more knowledgeable of the things I can work on. I can feel that she really cares for and understands her students, frequently going out of her way to help us.
Lavinia has been very helpful to me for learning the violin as an adult beginner/intermediate player.
I had 2 years of violin tuition before taking lessons with Lavinia and she helped improve and guide my technique in a number of areas in the year and a half's study I've had with her.
This has resulted in a real difference, especially in areas of intonation, shifting and vibrato, the later of which I'm particularly pleased with.
Lavinia brings an energy and infectious enthusiasm to each lesson which I greatly appreciate as I'm not the most confident player. She takes any problem I bring seriously and always has a suggestion or two to address the issue and demonstrate the solutions clearly.
I also appreciate her continual encouragement when I am unable to grasp or master techniques as speedily as I'd like.
I can recommend Lavinia as she is an excellent violin player and is able to pass on the lessons she has learnt effectively. Her violin teaching is absolutely great! My child improve and learn such a lot under her fantastic teaching technique, skills and method. My child just got a distinction in the ABRSM exam!
One of the best violin teachers I had. I am taking lessons from Ana- Lavinia for the past 3 years and my playing has improved a lot since.
As a teacher, she is patient, kind, and encouraging. Has a way of explaining difficult concepts in a way that is easy to understand, and always makes sure that her students are motivated to improve. Always tailors her lessons to the individual needs and goals of each student.
Ana- Lavinia is also an incredibly talented musician. Her mastery of the violin is truly inspiring, and I always look forward to hearing her play.
I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a skilled and passionate violin teacher. One of the best violin teacher I've had so far. I am taking lessons with her for the past 3 years now and my playing has improved a lot.

In addition to being a wonderful teacher,
Ana- Lavinia is also an incredibly talented musician. Her mastery of the violin is truly inspiring, and I always look forward to hearing her play.
I would highly recommend Ana- Lavinia to anyone looking for a skilled and passionate violin teacher.Lavinia was my daughter violin teacher, I can say she was a great teacher. She was paying attention to everything, for her wasn’t just to help my daughter to memorize a song, or let’s just play for fun. No, she was actually watching everything; hand position, posture, fingers placement, bow, sound. I’m so glad for Lavinia and other teacher that my daughter had after Lavinia moved to UK, they both helped my daughter to develop good violin techniques, we all know how hard it is to fix bad habits.
Lavinia proved again and again that she is capable of handling someone that hasn't played the violin in more than 25 years. I am confident that anyone going for that goal of learning to play an instrument, being violin or piano, can get a great help and a lot of knowledge from her. The fact that she plays at a highest level those instruments and still able to give you step by step, slow and paced learning advice, proves that she's more than capable of being the person you need to help you reach that goal of yours, whether be to learn a new instrument or improve on one you already have experience with.
I highly recommend her, just give it a go at trying one of her lessons, you'll see what i mean by saying she's the tutor you need to teach you violin or piano.
Thank you for helping me Lavinia, i am looking forward to be playing violin again like i used to do it 25 years ago.Ana-Lavinia is a wonderful and inspiring teacher! We've known each other for over 10 years and I have seen her tutor students of all abilities with great success. She is deeply invested in helping her students get the most out of lessons and develop a lasting love of music. She knows when to push you to do your best, when to check in with you, and when to celebrate your achievements along the way. I highly recommend taking lessons with her – as a friendly, fun, and highly skilled teacher, she makes learning a new instrument or continuing to develop your skills a fantastic experience.
Lavinia is very talented and compassionate. She makes you understand what you are learning with this calming and gentle nature of hers. Lavinia is patient and a great teacher for all ages. My sister and I definitely saw an improvement in our playing as the practices went on. I would totally recommend Lavinia as your teacher she is one of a kind.
10/10 Definitely would recommend!Lavinia has taught me violin for over five years and she has been an absolutely AMAZING violin tutor. Along with her exceptional capabilities and self-driven personality, she was super enthusiastic and passionate about helping me learn, along with inspiring me and really making me enjoy violin. It is very rare to come across someone who is so talented at being able to execute both the big picture ideas and the small details of a piece while also communicating this in such a straightforward manner for students to be able to understand and accomplish as well.
I highly recommend taking lessons with Lavinia if you have the opportunity to work with her!Super talented violinist and a wonderful teacher! Anyone would be lucky to be taught by her.
10/10 would recommend to anyone hoping to improve your violin and/or music skills!View more recommendations
