About Tessa
Hi there! I am a college student majoring in elementary education. I am a nationally certified VPk teacher and have taught a range of different skills from math and science to violin and cheerleading. I would love to help your family!
I begin with an overview of all we have to accomplish. For younger students I will create an interactive checklist to use as we accomplish each task.

As a teacher. I prefer for the student to explain to me what they know about the subject and what makes sense to them, so they start the session confident. Then as a team we pick apart the parts that dont make sense. I believe heavily in a reward system and building the child up and showing them that they are smarter than they think.
I have worked with ages from preschool to middle school but am comfortable with any age
Always have the student involved in the decision process and let the tutor build a relationship with the student. If the child doesn't like the tutor s/he wont learn. No matter how good the tutor may be.
My favorite moment from teaching as simple as it may sound is seeing a student help his classmate with a math problem that would have made him so discouraged just a few weeks earlier. I believe the best way to show a child knows the information is by teaching others. His confidence showed me all our hard work was well worth it.
