About Grant
I was a volunteer tutor throughout high school for at risk youth. In college I became a certified tutor for fellow students with learning disabilities. Now I work professionally as a Training Manager. I've always been a teacher at heart, and want to continue that.
As shared above, I started by volunteering as a tutor in high school to help my fellow students. During my school scheduled lunch period I would meet with at risk students, even teaching in classes I had not taken myself.
I volunteered as a tutor to at risk students through high school - teaching me how to work with those from various home lifes and cultures.
In college I was hired to work in the school's tutoring center (TECHniques), and received a certification of tutoring skill. In this center I worked specifically with students who had various learning disabilities - so I learned to customize my approach to each student.

Initial session to get to know them, what subjects/specific topics they need help with, and their views on how they learn best.
Once acquainted we start working through examples of what they need help with. I'll solve an example first and explain the process as I go, then I have them solve a similar example with me providing guidance as they work.
I started by working with at risk youth - those from challenging backgrounds/home lifes.
Then I worked at my University tutoring students with a variety of learning disabilities.
Don't feel shame about asking for help. Look for a teacher who you are comfortable opening yourself up to, and will be patient with what you need.
In my professional career I am a warehouse Operations Manager leading a team from diverse backgrounds and education levels. I employ my same approach from tutoring to each of their professional developments. Over the last 2 years at my current warehouse I have directly trained over 20 entry level employees to earn promotions.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Go to the teacher with a clear question of what you need help with. "I need help figuring out how to solve x,y,z." Try not to be overly vauge in your request for help.
By providing them with a clear goal of what you need help with, they can best help you.
