About Julie
What I’ll be offering may be construed as rather broad, though my training has focused on Poetry in particular, what I’d like to do with students is focus on process. My own, which has been developed over a period of writing in and out of classrooms, is methodical chaos — what I do when I’m feeling stuck is to write by hand exactly what is on my mind, read in depth in whatever genre I feel inspired by (read widely! And at all age levels; fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction and literature, poetry, books on craft, etc), and utilize a balance between craft and emotion throughout what I mold into what is mostly memoir in poetry. Down the line, if satisfied with what I will offer, including perspective, line edits, and interpretation as well as suggestions for developing a personal style and process, I’d like to offer interactive exercises by teaching and having discussions on craft in a natural setting, such as a local park (down the line in my personal and professional relationship with each student).
I have been personally writing poems and journaling since I was in first grade, and attended Stony Brook University where I have taken a variety of Creative Writing classes. I've always used writing as a tool for both pleasure and therapeutically; utilizing this outlet as a way to aid me in processing and rationalizing my emotions and life experiences. It is a passion of mine to aid others in using the tools of writing for personal pleasure as well as teaching specific ways to enrich craft, specifically in the genre of poetry but more than willing to give advice in other genres as well.
