About Natalie
As a current junior in high school, I understand exactly what schools are looking for and what tricks they might not mention about how to ace a test or perfect an essay. I have always been interested in learning about and teaching literature and writing, and I would love to help people who may struggle in these subjects make the most of their time at home.
I have been a mentor for incoming students many times and currently serve as the leader of my school's yearbook program. I don't have any professional training but through creating and teaching lessons on yearbook design and production I have learned a variety of ways to guide students through difficulties in learning.

I like to talk through one assignment they are proud of and one assignment they wish they could bury. When you are embarrassed about an assignment it can be difficult to analyze it without judgment, but by comparing the weakest and strongest pieces of work it is easier gauge where the issues root from and how to begin to grow from them. If this isn't possible, I'd take a subject they're interested in and find a way to blend it with traditional writing, then walk together through the process of creating a short essay about it.
Don't go looking for a tutor unless you want to learn. Having someone walk you through the basics of writing while you zone out or count down the minutes until it's over is a waste of everyone's time, and it'll only make you despise the subject even more! Before you begin working with a teacher or tutor, come up with a personal goal with a clear and possible outcome that is designed around your understanding. Basically, don't go in expecting and aiming for an 'A', go in hoping for an 'A' but with the intention to learn how to write a two-page essay in an hour with no grammar mistakes. At the same time, go in with an open mind and remember that all the knowledge you've acquired in every other subject can be utilized through reading and writing! Pacing, organization, memorization through song, these are all examples!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is holding you back? Think back to a particularly difficult assignment and try to find where the issues began. Were you immediately lost because of the vocabulary or structure of the writing you needed to analyze, or did you understand the text but have no idea how to argue for or against it? Try to find your biggest roadblock and work backward as far as you can to see where the problem originated.
