About Shirley
Hi, thanks for visiting my profile! I am a highly enthusiastic and experienced tutor teaching English, Law, Tax, Business Studies and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) at all levels from beginner - advanced to young students and adults. I am also experienced in teaching 11+ exams (I have been through them myself and know how challenging they can be) and Mathematics (up to A-Level).
I was born in London, UK and was taught Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) by my parents whilst growing up, at school and subsequently at university (in extra classes). I studied 15 GCSEs (achieving 9A*s, 6As) and 8 A-Levels including Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Music and Geography (achieving 2A*s and 6As).
I subsequently studied Law at the London School of Economics graduating with a 2.1. I am currently working in the field of tax law and accounting as a manager in a professional services firm where I also qualified as a chartered tax advisor. Because of my studies and profession, I am very experienced in supporting businesses, writing essays / articles, reading and interpreting legislation and case law, as well as advocating. As part of my degree, I studied Criminal Law, Public Law, Jurisprudence, Contract Law, Tort Law, Property Law (including Advanced Property Law), Intellectual Property Law, Corporate Insolvency Law, Commercial Contracts, Mathematical Methods (I was able to take a maths course as part of my law degree!) and the Law of Taxation (which spiked my interest in a tax career). Happy to assist on any of these subjects.
I would love to help students achieve their goals in the above areas, whether it be helping with structuring a legal essay for university, preparing for 11+ exams, practising conversational English or learning Chinese before a holiday in China. I also help with reviewing applications and CVs. Please feel free to contact me if you would like help in any of these areas. I teach online and via phone too.
