About Hannah
I have experience teaching and tutoring people of many ages, from 9 up to 24. I love interacting with people and sharing an honest, visceral investment in writing.
I truly believe the ability to articulate ideas through writing is the gateway to creating social and cultural momentum. Working with people to help break down our language phrase by phrase and utilize careful, hyper-specific word choice has always brought me joy.
My experience tutoring formally started in college, where I was the head news editor of my student newspaper. I trained my staffers on grammar, sentence structure, writing styles, and journalistic etiquette on a daily basis. In my short time in the professional world, I’ve written for Pittsburgh Magazine and Pittsburgh newsroom PublicSource. Once I became a middle school teacher, I worked with up to 30 students a day on reading comprehension and writing composition.

First, I like talking with my students and figuring out what their goals are -- long and short-term. Then, I asses their reading and writing skills and look for where they're struggling. For example: Do they struggle with vowel sounds and clusters? Do they have difficulty organizing essays or formulating a clear, consice argument? Last, I sit with the student and one, figure out what their deadline for reaching their goals are, and two, construct a timeline to ensure we reach those goals on time.
