About Julia
Hi, I'm Ms. Richardson, M.Ed! I'm a credentialed Elementary School teacher with 4+ years of experience teaching and tutoring students in reading, phonics and writing both in-person and online. Making learning fun is my speciality, and I use puppets, games, rewards and lots of praise! I incorporate movement, art and music during lessons to keep students engaged and excited.
I graduated from UCLA with my Master of Education in 2020 with a 4.0 GPA. I cleared my California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential in 2021 and am licensed to teach all academic subjects to students Kindergarten-12th grade.
I love working with children and celebrating their growth one step at a time. It is very rewarding for me to see students make progress with subjects they struggle with and to help them find their confidence. At the end of the school year or a tutoring series, reflecting on those victories makes the hard work worth it.
During the COVID-19 school closures, I taught and tutored First Grade students entirely online for a year which makes me an expert at tutoring online; I know all the tricks of the trade and my students loved to be in class.
I've tutored and taught English to non-native English speakers covering speaking & listening, reading and writing. My tutoring expertise is in students' development of foundational reading skills, phonics, phonemic awareness, reading comprehension and writing skills.

Prior to our first session, it is helpful for me to communicate with the student's caregiver to get a clear picture of what tutoring support they need. During our first session, I typically use name games to get to know my student and connect with them. I also assess the student using a reading/writing test to understand what they know and need support with so I can target their learning needs. Then I design an individual learning program to help the student achieve his/her goals in an agreed-upon time frame.

What I liked about it is my child wasn’t able to read/ sound of her words specially when it came to writing. With the Foundation reading and writing she was able to understand it and break the words that were hard for her, as well she able to write them following along as she sound the words out.
