About Clare
I am a recent graduate of The University of Virginia with an English major and Social Entrepreneurship minor. I have tutoring experience in almost all subjects with students ages 10 - 20. My own SAT score was in the 99th percentile and I was a Writing Center tutor for the University tutoring my peers and athletes. I would be happy to tutor younger children in a variety of subjects and provide specialty essay and test prep for high school students.
I have a full time position during the week, but I would like to continue my work from college to tutor students on the weekends. As a young student prior to college, I also received tutoring help. I believe that this was some of the most valuable education I have ever received. One-on-one time between a teacher and a student is productive and valuable, and is the reason I am seeking new tutoring roles in the Richmond area.
I have a degree in English from UVA and have years of experience tutoring. I took a class at UVA on how to tutor and from that class was asked to work in the prestigious UVA writing center. While there, I taught my peers as well as student athletes and graduate students.

If the student is tasked with writing an essay, I usually start with the basics. I go through the writing process step by step, showing students that although writing can be creative and messy at times, there is a standard way that can provide a backbone and organization to the process. As time progresses, I hope for this process to come naturally as we work together. In school students are often taught the fundamentals but are not required to put them into practice; this is the first and most essential part of writing that I instill in my students.
I’ve worked with young children all the way through college age students.
