About Wendy
MISSION STATEMENT
My mission is twofold:
To assist elementary and junior high school students in grades K-8 in English grammar and punctuation, writing, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and spelling to achieve their educational goals using Common Core techniques and curriculum.
To assist TESOL (English as a Second Language) adults and children by providing exceptional tutoring in all aspects of English Language Arts, including English grammar and punctuation, writing, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and spelling, using proven methods in ESL instruction.
Each tutoring session is tailored to the student’s academic and real-world needs. My tutoring center serves the following areas: Campus Commons, Land Park, South Sacramento, and Elk Grove only.
HOW DO THE TUTORING SESSIONS WORK?
Assessment: The first meeting with the parent/caretaker and child or the adult occurs either at a library or at a Starbucks near your home. Using a rubric (assessment) based on the student’s grade-level and corresponding Common Core or TESOL (English as a Second Language) standards, we discuss the goals you want your child or yourself to achieve. This first 30-minute meeting is free.
Future Tutoring Sessions: We determine the location of future meetings (either a nearby library or your home) and the number of times/days tutoring will occur.
I enjoy helping students to imrpove their ELA skills and feel more confident in expressing themselves.
QUALIFICATIONS
I have my Masters in English, a Certificate in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language), and have been an educator/instructor in pre-kindergarten through college and adult education grades. I have run a successful tutoring business for the past four years and receive consistently positive comments from both adults and children.
I have developed a series of Common Core rubrics (assessments) for students in regular language arts programs, which I use in my tutoring service. I also adhere to proven TESOL techniques for my ESL students. In addition, i apply these language arts paradigms to writing across the curriculum. Most importantly, I love tutoring and am known for my empathy and expertise with students that represent diverse backgrounds.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
The tutor is excellent with my child. She keeps the attention of my child and they do fun assignments that the tutor has created in order to keep my child engaged in reading and in wanting to read more and on her own. The tutor will also speak to the teacher and attend school meetings so that they can have a better understanding on what is being taught at school. They also want to get the feedback from the teacher so that they can better assist the student. I have already referred my child's tutor to 2 people at her school. I would highly recommend for anyone to use their tutoring services, especially those representing an ESL background.
Ms Wendy has done a good job helping my son with his homework and tutoring him well. I highly recommend her.
