About Alyssa
In addition to academic support and remediation, creating a safe learning enviroment that promotes risk-taking and improved confidence is one of my top priorities! This includes consistent positive reinforcement, and a deep understanding of the root cause behind a student's learning challenges and behaviors. As a partner in your child's learning, I will be engaged in helping to 'demystify' the process for parents and provide strategies that you can implement in the home to reinforce growth and promote a positive learning environment.
Of course, I enjoy watching students' newfound confidence as they build their skills, but perhaps more than that I enjoy when parents feel secure that they've found someone who truly 'sees' and understands their child in a holistic way!
I hold a Master's degree from Hunter College School of Education, as well as initial teaching certification in New York State for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) grades K-12. Moreover, I have over 5 years of experience in implementing intensive reading intervention programs for students in a one-on-one setting.

First, I have a complimentary intake call with the parent so I can learn more about their child, their needs and discuss learning goals. Next, my first meeting with the student will be an initial skills assessment and to start building rapport! Then, I consult with the parent to discuss professional recommendations for session frequency and communicate the individualized instructional focus.
I've worked extensively with ELL students, as well as students with diagnosed learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, Asperger's, and CAPD. I've worked with students aged 4 through adult.
