About Shelley
Through teaching a diverse range of students in an equally wide range of formal educational settings, I have observed that many students benefit from individual instruction and struggle to achieve their academic goals without it. Whether it is supplemental to formal courses or the primary means of learning new knowledge, private instruction provides students with a stress-free environment to work through challenging material and gain confidence in their abilities.
One of the most rewarding experiences of my life is helping students achieve their educational goals.
I have had a passion for introducing people to new ideas and helping them expand their knowledge since the age of 12 when I worked as an assistant in my mother's science classes for kindergarten and elementary school students. Later, I expanded on this experience in a museum context, designing summer educational programming for middle and high school students.
As an instructor at Emory University, I taught introductory courses in art history, assisting students to engage with new concepts in ways which expanded their knowledge and led to success in exams and assignments. I gave special attention to developing my students' writing skills, helping them to develop strong persuasive arguments, conduct academic research, and avoid plagiarism.
My Qualifications
Over four years of experience teaching university level courses
600 hours experience as a private instructor for university and continuing education students in Humanities and Social Sciences courses
Extensive experience in working with students one-on-one to improve their writing and to ensure they gain a knowledge of proofreading and appropriate citation styles
