About Helen
I started playing flute in 1971 when I was in 5th grade. I pursued flute throughout my high school years competing each year with great success in solo and ensemble contests as well as band competitions. My senior year, I received the Outstanding Bandsman award and the John Phillips Sousa award. Though I gave up music studies to raise a family and pursue a theatre teaching degree, I continue to play at my church and consider music one of the greatest joys of my life. I would like to pass on my love of the flute to others who would like to learn.
A parent from my church asked me to teacher her daughter after hearing me play during a service.
I have taken flute throughout highschool, and given lessons to beginners and more advanced students over the years. I have participated with great success in solo and ensemble work and in band competitions.

About the lesson

We will assess where the student is currently and find out what his/her goals are.
If he/she has never taken played flute before, we can begin at the beginning with note reading and finger placement if needed.
If the student is trying to get ahead at school, we can work on independent pieces or music from a band or orchestra.
For independent study, we can work with classical or pop music for enjoyment.
At every level, care is taken to produce the best sound and technique possible.
Mostly beginners students, though I have also worked with some intermediate students interested in improving their skills for band competitions.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How much effort am I willing to put into learning my instrument. Effort equals success, no effort leads to frustration.

Details
Lessons run $20 for 30 minute lessons, or $30 for 45 minute lessons.
It it expected that the student will practice a minimum of 30 minutes a day on the lesson material in order to get the maximum benefit from the lessons.
