About Andrew
Geography has been a passion of mine since middle school. I was fortunate enough to attend Catholic school at Nativity Of Our Lord in the heart of Pleasant Ridge; and throughout their core ciriculum, we were constantly taught to have a global view of the world.
With several foreign exchange programs each year, we were introduced to numerous differing cultures, constantly exposed to students from other sides of the world. I've made friends with kids from Germany, Findland, Russia, China, Malasyia, Ukraine, and the Netherlands to name a few. Now I was able to replace a country on a map, with a face or a memory.
By Sixth Grade we were expected to know every country, their capital city, rivers, seas, mountain ranges, plains, oceans and every other geographical feature from each of the seven continents on and around earth. Map test were so commonplace throughout my nine years at Nativity that eventually your mind is just gets used to the concept of connecting names with countries, rivers, deserts, etc. A sort of brain muscle memory, if you will.
In October of 2008, in my Eighth Grade year, I was able to partake in an exchange deligation of my own to the beautiful country of Hungary in central Europe. Magyarorszag was one of the very best experiences in my life and the lifelong friendships I made are priceless.
