About Daniel
My life and daily activities revolve around music. I have been playing for over 13 years now and will continue to pursue my doctorates degree in music composition. I have played with many bands in the genre of blues/rock but have been focusing on jazz and classical repertoire. I get the most satisfaction when my students are engaged and asking questions, helping them reach new skill levels is my main priority. I have been self employed when it comes to teaching, but have also been working for Varsity Tutors for over 3 years now. I currently have my Associates Degree in the Art of Music but working on my Bachelor's from the University of Houston. I love a new challenge and going above and beyond my students expectations is what I live for. I hope that one day I can make teaching a full-time job. Cheers to all the aspiring musicians, I hope that we can work together soon.
What I enjoy the most about teaching is seeing the way that my student's minds work. Music is highly theoretical and varies from person to person, so I find it very interesting to see different points-of-view aside from my own. Spending time with my instruments and developing repertoire and technique is another thing that truly makes me happy.
I started teaching about 4 years ago because I love the challenge of learning new music. I get excited when my students and I discover new ways of looking and approaching music. To me, teaching is growing, and I can grow the most when I am in my natural habitat; giving lessons.
I have been playing and performing with many different bands from jazz, rock, blues and hip-hop. I currently have my Associates in Music but working on pursuing my Bachelor's in music composition.

When I meet a new student, I like to gauge his or her skill level. I usually let the student pick the material that he/she wants to learn from but I can also recommend various studies. Patience and attention is key towards developing a connection with my students.
I have worked with students from the age of 5 to the age of 50. Variety and diversity in people is what I truly enjoy.
The best advice I can give is that of discipline. It is a very good thing that we can dream about us doing big things when it comes to music and performance, but most importantly is the awareness of what the art of music truly is, and what it takes to become a respected musician world wide.
My fondent memory when it comes to teaching are my two young students (age 6). They ask me so many questions and I gladly respond and give them the answers they seek. It makes me happy to see their eyes light up when they know that they are advancing and grasping the concept of what is the musical language that only us musicians know.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about questions that give them the most trouble. A teacher is there to give guidance and help with anything that is hindering the student from self-expression. My advice is that the student should learn as much as he/she can before contacting a teacher so that they may get the most out of their lessons.

I usually charge 50-60 dollars an hour in face-to-face lessons but can work on 30-40 dollars when the lessons are online.
