About Paul
Dedicated to the creative development of songwriters, Montesano Music provides coaching in song development and music theory, with a focus on guitar. With a personalized approach to teaching, Paul customizes each session, adapting songs to individual style and vocal range. With performance and recording as the ultimate goal, Momtesano Music produces tracks for singers and songwriters who are ready to share their talents. Paul received an Emmy award in 2010 for compositions and recordings created for the Wonderland series seen on PBS.
I studied guitar and began to read music at 7 years of age. Private teachers and music theory classes shaped my basic knowledge. Playing with other musicians and finally developing as a songwriter and singer developed my artistic passion. I have shared my musical knowledge in many situations, including teaching all ages of guitar students in a one on one setting.

I use a personalized style of teaching, which means that a new student will be able to choose what style and what songs they would like to learn. Whether acoustic or electric; nylon or steel string, I will design a lesson plan that suits their personal taste as well as the level of playing ability. Exercises will be written out and video recorded, applied to songs that the student wants to learn.

I took guitar lessons from Paul for several years before I moved to Florida, and I also recorded several songs in his studio. He is a talented guitarist who also had a great vision of what I wanted to do in recording my original material. He was a great teacher and mentor to me, and I give him my highest recommendation. Every year when I come back to visit San Diego, I still always schedule a few lessons with Paul while I'm in town. He's the best!
Paul is the best keep secret as a Guitar teacher, composer, and writer. My wife is Brazilian, and Paul got me excited about playing Brazilian music. He is knowledgeable, patient, talented and non-judgemental. He is one of the most passionate musicians I ever met. You will be blown away by your experience with Paul. It will be transformative.
Paul Is excellent with arranging tunes you want to be able to play on a solo 6 string guitar. You don't even have to have the music. His ear is so good he can take the chords right off your CD and put it on sheet music for you He arranged over 40 bossa nova songs for me that way.
