About Alex
Strong performing background as both a solo pianist, duet, solo guitarist, singer/songwriter, and ensemble musician. Strong music theory knowledge that continues to improve and grow every day.
Patient and despite not having much experince tutoring music, my experience being an academic tutor in high school and college as well as a secondary RA, makes that up in my approach to teaching.
I enjoy being a mentor of any kind. However, what I enjoy the most is the act of making music and being able to make it accessible to others. The way music can affect someone emotionally when it is played genuinely is a rush and I hope that I can instill the same passion I carry on to anyone.
I had a brief experience teaching music when I lived in mexico. I taught at one of the local churches as a way to earn community service hours for high school graduation and my college acceptance.
Alex is a late youth virtuosso starting piano lessons at 8 years old and reaching the competitive piano scene at 10. After finishing 4 years of private lessons in the US, Alex enrolled in a bi-national pseudo-conservatory called Academia de Musica Mexico. Their time there stretched for 4 years and achieved renown within the academy as one of the best pianists in both solo and duet categories. Alex returned to the US in high school were they studied as a SCPA Guitar Major at both Chula Vista Middle and High School, being one of the few rare freshman selected to join the elite performing ensemble group, House of Guitars. Alex's senior year left CVHS House of Guitars to revive the SCPA Jazz Band along with 2 of their classmates and was selected amongst 2 others with jazz experience to be the first keyboardist.

I like to perform or play some music that will be relevant to the lesson and what they are hoping to learn. If they are completely new to the instrument, I like to break down the different parts of the instrument, what they are for, and teach some basic music theory to get them acquainted with hopefully their new life-long friend.
In the Church, I worked mainly with pre-teens (12-15). As an academic tutor, I generally taught and helped my classmates of my grade and lower.
Ask them what they like to teach and what they know how to play. Some teachers are extremely talented in one genre like classical but lack experience in others with different time signatures and complex measures like jazz, latin fusion, and bossanova.
Graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as the first in my family, 2nd generation latinx immigrant who started their educational career in Mexico, this was a huge culmination of both my family's and my own sacrifices.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
You should focus on finding someone you dont feel intimidated by and are able to clearly communicate with.
Think about what you wish to get out of the lessons whether it's an outlet for your emotions or stressors, a route in which you hope to grow professionally, or a hobby you've always been interested but never had time to pursue, etc. Having a clear goal in mind will help any instructor know how and where to guide you to reach your goal. We are here to help you and not the other way around.

I do not. I like to think that each student's need/goal is different and therefore the amount of guidance they will need is different.
I will probably update this after having more experience with this but for the moment I am charging $50 per lesson for adults, $40 for teens and pre-teens, $35 for children ages 7+.
