About Jo
Hi there! My name is Jo Moses, and if you’re looking for help with your essays or customized, holistic tutoring in English, then you’ve come to the right place. With over five years of experience in tutoring elementary through college, I bring dedication, flexibility, and strategy to every lesson. Whether you’re in English 101 or developing a graduate thesis, I can help.
I graduated Summa cum Laude from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in journalism. I’ve been a tutor since college, where I tutored American History and worked at LMU’s Writing Center, helping college students with writing assignments from remedial to graduate levels. Since graduating, I’ve worked at a group tutoring company in Los Angeles where I lead small classroom groups of students in custom lessons, updated weekly, to develop their skills.
If you book a session with me, I’ll use a holistic approach, creating custom materials to help you develop your writing skills along with transforming any essay. No one leaves a session with me without useful material and a plan to follow up on what was learned.
In addition, I am experienced in working with students with learning disabilities such as ADHD, and helping those students find adaptations for succeeding in an academic setting.

I got started teaching in highschool, as a teacher's assistant. I had a teacher who I really looked up to, and I wanted to learn how she was such an effective teacher - so I asked to be a teacher's assitant and from there I helped plan an teach classes, help student with classwork, and grade work.
I worked as a Teacher's Assistant in highschool for three years. I have experience helping plan curriculums and lessons, helping students when they get stuck, and explaining tricky concepts.

First, I'd like to recieve the material the student is working with. Free of charge I'll spend time going over it. While I'm certainly familiar with the general American History curriculum, there are often slight changes based on the teacher's preferences, or just changes over time.
Then the student and I would set up an appointment, either virtually or in person, and I will provide the student with a lesson in the material, strategies to better understand and remember key American History concepts, and practice the material with the student so they're able to remember it and explain it on their own in the classroom and on tests.
Highschool students.
Find someone who teaches the subject - not the test. If you learn to understand history in a narrative sense, with it's repeating patterns and characters, you'll be prepared for any test that could be thrown at you.

Jo is a wonderful teacher with a wealth of expertise in writing. She has personally assisted me with essay writing for over 6 years, and I credit her in my successes. Jo goes above and beyond to ensure that each student reaches their full writing potential. She is patient, knowledgable, and kind. When I encountered an issue with my writing, Jo took hours to counsel me through it and didn't stop until I was confident in my work. I truly could not reccomend Jo more; she is the teacher I reccomend to my own family.
Jo’s help was imperative throughout my essay writing process. She was extremely punctual, patient and understanding. What astounded me the most was how she was her ability to provide a completely different perspective regarding my writing. The environment she lays out while helping I found to be comforting since she never once judged me for how much I didn’t know. I highly recommend her to any student, teacher, civilian, even pets that are looking for someone who is reliable and genuinely cares about helping people. Thanks again Jo! My A in my English 1 class - and I myself - thank you for all your hard work!
