About Andrew
Hello there! My name is Drew Johnson, and I am a teacher in Portland Maine where I have taught multiple subjects across multiple grades. I really enjoy teaching because I always get the opportunity to learn something new and work together with students on a project.
In my classroom, students feel comfortable asking questions and achieving more than just the surface level. After teaching in lots of different roles, I know that students need someone to partner with, not someone who just tells them what to do. I have been in elementary, middle, and high school classrooms and I’ve picked up some tricks that really relieve anxiety and overcome challenges.

No one cares who you know, until they know that you care. My first step is to appreciate the student’s initiative and determine what their goals are. Second, we develop a plan of action to achieve this goal. Third and finally, I invite the student to join me on a schedule that is realistic for both of us and that sets the student up for success. Then we get to work!
