About Sarah
Math, reading, writing and social studies are my specialties. I have a general elementary teaching license and particularly enjoy working with younger students. My background is working as a substitute teacher and aide in elementary schools. I also have extensive experience working with children in a resource center with additional needs, such as behavioral challenges and learning disabilities – I am ready to help students with ADHD flourish.
I have also worked with college students from freshman through senior level courses as a writing tutor, a political science TA, and a geography tutor.
I have worked with every age group from elementary to university in a variety of subjects. I have a BS in Constitutional Law and hold an elementary teaching license.
As an aide and substitute, my job is both rewarding and fun. I love working with kids – their naïve humor and innocent enthusiasm are equal parts energizing and inspiring. Seeing them progress academically and grow personally so that they are both happier and more self-aware is incredibly satisfying.
As an example, one of the classes I worked with over the last school year had a student who struggled with disruptive behavior and limited attention. We discovered together that despite his resentment for school – math in particular - he had a love for multiplication. With a little guidance, he made a night-and-day change to being excited and enthusiastic about math. The difference for him was practical, real world examples so that his work felt relevant and substantive.
That kind of change is incredibly meaningful for me as a teacher and makes my job fun and satisfying.
Honestly, it first fell into my lap when one of my professors asked me to work in the writing center and another asked me to be his TA. I ran with it and now I love it.
