About Jonathan
I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at River Falls with a Bachelor's Degree in History and a Minor in Geology. I have a passion for all topics history and an excellent personal library of resources.
I am adept at historical writing at a college level. I am also great at realizing not just the who, what, when, and where that typifies most history content, but also the WHY that tends to inform both the motives and methods of historical figures.
As a tutor I will not just help with assignments, but also with understanding the underlying themes in ways that can be applied to other contexts within the historical narrative.
What I enjoy most about helping people delve into history is when they make the realization that the hard details (who, what, when, where) are often less important for understanding and memorization than the soft details (why).

My process involves exploring the student's basic understanding of the topic for which I am being approached, typically through discussion, and the problems they feel they are facing. Once these are established, I will work with the student to tackle the subject and achieve a better understanding.
My past students have been my own classmates in high school and in college.
Memorization is not the most important part of history. A flash card may get you a passing grade on a multiple choice test, but it will never give you an understanding of the underlying issues and themes and it certainly won't help you write a good paper.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What, as precisely as possible, am I struggling with?
What do I understand and where does my understanding end?
