About Shain
My first experience tutoring was in the English Writing Center at the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California. I tutored students from the ages of 18 to 50, at varying skill levels to college-level thesis writing from 2004-2006. I completed an undergraduate degree in Political Science and International Relations in 2011 from the University of Tennessee, and in 2019 I earned a Master's degree in Secondary Social Sciences Education as well as a secondary social studies teaching credential.
I love classroom teaching and tutoring students one-on-one, because both allow me to help others reach their goals. One of the greatest feelings in the world is the moment a student reaches the "lightbulb moment", that moment when I can see that they understand the core meaning of the lesson. When my student's achieve, I feel that I have as well!

It's important to me to get to know who the student is, to learn how they communicate, and to outline specific goals so that we can accurately map our progress. Once we have a solid foundation from which to work, we can delve into the subject matter, test our goals, and adjust expectations as needed. Most importantly, the student and I make decisions together. Collaboration is key to a productive learning session.
